Taking place within the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) Library and Archive, the project Safety Zones and Shifting Timelines explores the fragile relationships between art institutions, collective memory, and the shifting political, social, and economic realities of the Baltic region.
The project is rooted in the history of the LCCA archive that begins with the Soros Center for Contemporary Art-Riga, established in 1993 in the aftermath of the Soviet Union’s collapse.
Using a multilayered video essay and drawings, Šnē injects ecological thinking into the archive. Her work brings together archival materials, personal references, everyday images, and fragments of unfinished experiments. Through this layering, the work reflects on how ideas of nature have shifted within art and institutional language over the past decades – from nature as landscape or resource to nature as a political and ecological condition that structures life itself, linking institutional memory to ecological urgency.
